Overview

Veterinarians are frequently called to assist horses that are recumbent and unable to stand. In many of these everyday situations, the Equi-lift cushion can significantly improve treatment outcomes and increase the chances of a successful recovery.
The system is particularly effective in cases involving:
  • Osteoarthritis;
  • Trauma;
  • Myopathy;
  • Fractures;
  • ...
The Equi-lift cushion is also invaluable for animal rescue teams and fire services responding to emergencies involving large animals.
The Equi-lift Model Classic is equipped with lifting straps and anchor points, allowing both the inflatable system and the animal to be lifted safely together.
The Equi-lift Model Classic can also be used as a portable surgical support platform for field procedures.

Fire & Rescue Services

The system can be adapted to suit the requirements of rescue teams, allowing the animal to be transferred directly into trucks or trailers for transport to a veterinary clinic, shelter or other suitable facility.
How It Works

Summary

The deflated cushion is positioned beneath the recumbent horse and inflated using the supplied compressor. Within approximately five minutes, the horse is safely returned to a standing position. It is one of the simplest and safest methods of lifting a recumbent horse while keeping animal welfare at the forefront.
Equi-lift offers effective solutions for a wide variety of situations encountered in equine veterinary medicine. Each model has been designed to address a specific clinical need while improving the horse's chances of recovery.
How to Use

Setup

  • 1
    Lightly sedate the animal if necessary. Protect the hooves with tape to prevent damage to the inflatable cushion.
  • 2
    Secure the forelimbs and hindlimbs unless one limb is already unusable. Existing bandages should not interfere with positioning.
  • 3
    Ensure the ground is level and free from sharp or uneven surfaces.
  • 4
    Slide the deflated cushion beneath the horse while it is lying in lateral recumbency.
  • 5
    Reposition the horse into sternal recumbency.
  • 6
    Inflate the cushion while applying gentle pressure to the horse's back to help distribute the air evenly throughout the system.
  • 7
    Once fully inflated, stabilise the cushion using the surrounding environment. In most cases, the horse will stand immediately. If additional recovery time is required, secure the inflatable system with straps attached to fixed anchor points until the horse is able to stand independently.
